A long Waitangi Day weekend produced a fantastic bit of summer weather with a family ride along the Hogs Back Track with the Maddigans on Waitangi Day itself, followed by a decent day tramp the next day up to Temple Basin in Arthurs Pass.
Fortunately not too hot, the kids did really well with about a 900m ascent from the road to a beautiful terrace most of the way up the second tow line at Temple Basin ski field and fantastic views across to the highest peak in Arthurs Pass National Park, Mt Rolleston. Richard, Troy & I made it slightly further up to the (extremely crumbly “weetbix”!) ridge line and had some good views down east into the top of the Mingha Valley.
